Gerhard Richter (German 1932) is considered the founder of capitalist realism along with Sigmar Polke and Konrad Lueg. In 2006, Richter was named the most important contemporary artist by Capital magazine. His 1986 work Abstraktes Bild was auctioned by Sotheby's in London in 2015 for the equivalent of 41 million euros, the highest auction price for a contemporary artist at the time.
